Dr. G began playing the guitar at the age of 12. His first guitar teacher was Mark Burkert from whom he studied until 14 when he began his studies with famed guitarist Jimmy Bruno. Throughout high school, he learned traditional music theory from Michael Stairs at The Haverford School.
A protégé of guitarist Jimmy Bruno and pianist Jimmy Amadie, Dr. G completed a PhD in Musicology and a Master's in Classical Guitar Performance with Jack Sanders from the Claremont Graduate University. In addition, he completed his Bachelor's in Jazz Guitar Performance from the University of the Arts.
He teaches beginner, intermediate, and advanced private students. Red Note Press publishes his seven books including The Guitarist's Guide series on Harmonizing Melodies, Sight Reading, and Music Theory Fundamentals. His first book about a famed jazz guitarist Billy Bean: The Life and Music of a Jazz Guitar Legend, has received worldwide acclaim.
A professional guitarist for over 30 years, he has performed over 1500 concerts across the United States and internationally. His performances range from solo guitar to duos and larger ensembles.
